What Messages are YOU sending?

    Drinking is bad/immoral

    I am an adult

    I am overstressed

    I do not  like the taste

    I like the taste

    It is available

    I do not like how I act

    I want to get drunk

    Everybody else is

    I do not like how it

    makes me feel

    Drinking can be relaxing

    and enjoyable

    It is a special

    celebration

    I am an alcoholic/

    there is chemical  

    dependency in our family

    I always know my limit

    and stick with it

    I want to get drunk

    I have to drive

    I am not driving

    I am not driving

    I am on medication

    It is a party

    I want to be social

    I drink too much

    Alcohol is necessary

    to have fun

    I want to forget my

    problems/bad day

    I do not like what my

    parent(s) said and

    did when they drank

    It is part of bowling

   (softball, darts,        

    fishing, parties…)

    I get home from

    work on most days

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         If you expect your teens not to drink just because they are underage, think again.

·          For teens, age is only a temporary technicality.

·         Come up with a more convincing reason to influence their choice.

·         Consider any of the messages you may be sending them by your choices regarding use/nonuse of alcohol.  If your messages are positive and effective, be sure to express them aloud to your teens.  If your messages are negative and a bad influence, change your behavior and your message!

·          Remember: it is never too early to start sending healthy messages to your children.
