 1.

Embarass your family by aggressively confronting the coach

 

 

 2.

Scream profanity or negative comments from the bleachers or worse

 

 3.

Criticize players in earshot of nearby spectators—

 especially their families

 

 4.

Call your kid a loser or derogatory labels like wimp,

lazy,  and worse

 

 5.

Keep replaying a post game analysis after your kid

has moved on

 

 6. 

Emphasize your negative feelings toward the game

over any feelings your child has 

 

 7.

Neglect  to ask if your son/daughter had fun playing

 

 8.

Fail to encourage your child to evaluate his/her own performance

 

 9.

Have a higher commitment level to the sport than your child does

 

10.

Pay sports fees in excess of  your house or car payments

 

11.

Ignore your other kids’ complaints that they

never get to do anything else

 

12.

Do not encourage your child to explore

 his/her additional  interests

 

13.

Force your child to sign up for next season

 when he/she is not interested

 

14.

Over focus on your dream of athletic scholarships

or professional careers for him/her

 

15.

Lose sleep/ obsess over children’s sports ‘drama’ /

neglect your own life

 

16.

Pay more attention to your kid after he/she plays

 a great/better game

 

17.

Encourage your kid to play dirty or be excessively competitive

 

18.

Over focus on winning the game and your child

as the star of the team

 

19.

Spend more time at games than alone with your spouse

 as a couple

 

20.

Talk about little else with your spouse and others
