14 tips to declare a truce

Differences in memory styles can create strains in relationships. 

Both partners can work to reduce conflict

and increase relationship strength.

 

 

If you are the one

with the looser  memory,   tighten up your effort:

  

 

____ 1. Develop ticklers/pneumonic devices

____ 2. Utilize available technology/a planner

____ 3. Post sticky notes

____ 4. Journal events and conversations

____ 5. Create a photo album

____ 6. Read about and practice new skills/habits for memory enhancement or

              preservation

____ 7. Focus on active and conscious listening with your partner

 

 If you are the one

with the tighter memory, loosen up your attitude:

 

 

____ 1. Improve your patience

        ____ 2. Learn to politely repeat yourself

____ 3. Respect differences and drop negative assumptions

____ 4. Provide information in writing as appropriate

____ 5. Time your delivery to build for success

____ 6. Use your memory as an asset in your relationship–not a liability

____ 7. Avoid taking personal insult
