Weight loss and New Year’s Resolution -Part 2
by Dr. Coach Love
In Part 1 I talked about the reasons New Year’s Resolutions fail—no matter what the goal. If you missed it, check back.
Resolutions are about making changes in your life. The key to successful change is accountability. You are less likely to achieve success if you keep quiet about your plans to change. If you are thinking, “But I don’t want to tell anybody in case I fail or want to give-up.” Well, that is just the point of telling. Selectively broadcast your goals and be accountable to someone outside of your self. There is no failure in goal setting—only the wrong plan that did not match your needs to accomplish what you wanted at the time.
The first step to goal setting for weight loss (or anything else) is developing a plan and finding a support system. Here are the first 4 of 8 planning tips for you.
|
1. Locate a step-by-step guide on goal setting. Put the ideas into practice.
2. Find a partner with equal motivation (or greater). “Coach” each other to success.
3. Build a “coaching phone tree” with family and/or friends. Use the principle of chaining to check accountability.
4. Enlist the support of someone with whom you can regularly check your progress. Be accountable for meeting mini structured goals.

What do you think? Check back for options 5-8.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
